Cabin Fever

Haight-Ashbury

Day 11 of this three-week trip and I am beginning to show signs of cabin fever.  I mean, this is a very nice apartment my daughter and son-in-law have here, but due in part to the weather (generally cold and wet) and my lack of money (couldn’t sell some photo gear before I left) I am pretty much stuck here, at least until my daughter returns on New Year’s Day.  I don’t have a lot of money to travel and I’m trying to save what I have.

I have plenty of food thanks to Florida, which gives me food stamps (or whatever they’re called now), as long as I am willing to walk to Whole Foods, which is, oddly enough, the cheapest place around.  Which is not to say that they’re cheap, just relatively cheap, and Target, although closer, and cheaper, won’t accept my Florida EBT card.  As I found out at the register after shopping.  There went $20 cash, here I am.

Still, I’m not here for me, I’m here for my daughter.  Two years ago, when I got busted, she was right there for me, bailed my ass out of jail and paid for the attorney who got me off.  So I’m more than willing to do this apartment sitting for her so she and her husband can spend a couple of weeks together in Singapore… just let me bitch a little about it, will you?

LATER: Watching some TED Talks on Netflix.  Science is awesome!

I’m sorry you’re feeling cagey. I hope you get some better weather ASAP!
OMG TED TALKS! Love them! Do you know about TEDx Talks? These are open, community-organized events. There are a TON on YouTube.
If you haven’t seen Dee Egger’s “Dolphins As Persons” lecture, you must! It’s my favorite (big surprise right?).
Here’s a link. Let me know what you think!

  2. That’s a wonderful video, Delphine, and although I had seen it before it was worth watching again. I think I sent Ms. Eggers a copy of “Wet Goddess,” but I never received a reply from her. So it goes, I’m sure she is busy saving our world.
