It is sad that Cynthia "Salina" had such bad things happen to her and her children. Death, divorce and cults are terrible things to have to deal with.

As to your portrayal and treatment of Cynthia, I think you are justified in your perception of being used. I have known people like that too – I am civil to them, but try to keep them at arms length. I am not surprised at all that she asked for a complementary copy of your book. She did not pay you for any of the photos you took for her book. Did she actually get copies of the photos to keep? If so, she knew full well what she was doing, and most likely never planned to pay you for them. Or perhaps she "intended" to pay you once her book was published (of course, in 1970's dollars). These are all conjectures, but probably not too far from the mark. People do all sorts of mental exercises to rationalize their improper behavior.

I am assuming that your decision to find and contact Cynthia was to help you "close the loop" with your experiences and thoughts. That's fine, you may even locate some of your other lost friends she may still be in contact with. Be civil. Keep a wary eye open. But don't allow yourself to be used like that again.

Make sure you have your sunglasses and sunblock on when Cynthia finally reads your depiction of her.

Here's the direct link to play the interview. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet...

http://www.spirituallyraw.tv/watch.cgi?itemid=40
Malcolm's segment starts at 31:19.

If I can find a permalink for the interview like the last ones they provided, I will post it here. They have provided archived mp3 versions if them before for download. Now, the interview is a streaming video. The file is an 808.5 MB flash video file. Not very friendly for people without lots of bandwidth. Hmmm...

That's a rather interesting story you share. I have read several books about dolphins and have read specifically about those particular dolphins yet The males were portrayed in smaller alliances. Who knows what this guy is talking about.. Hopefully he will write you back. Plus I think you are right the female side of it needs to be explored as well and with your experience it soudns like DOLLY made a clear choice to be with you. What I read was the females were herded but she could choose to mate with the male or not by swimming off etc. May not always be plausible if you are herded though so who knows??

Malcolm,
Nice little story you shared. I can't say how interesting it is to find so many people in facebook. In the past several years I've reconnected with old friends, an old boy friend and many long lost relatives.. I'm so glad you could find them and hope that the future holds many more surprises for you.

Hi Malcolm,

I'm glad you managed to find some of your old friends and acquaintances. Hopefully, you will have many more nice chats with them.

Rather pointless, beyond possibly drawing people here or to your book.

Never heard back from KMart, which makes me think it wasn't the right job for me, or that I am simply unconvincing as a candidate for a minimum wage, PT job. One can be "overqualified," you know, and bright people who get bored on the job are more likely to be troublesome. I'm still looking, but I'm not giving up!
